Astrid May Conkel

CONKEL, Astrid May, age 83, of Kettering, passed away Monday, September 8, 2014. Astrid graduated from Portsmouth High School where she was a Drum Major and a member of the swim team. She eloped with her husband, Harold, at the age of sixteen. It was love at first sight and they were married 60 years when he passed in 2007. Astrid and Harold summered at Gem Beach on Catawba Island, Lake Erie where they enjoyed boating and spending time with friends and family. Astrid was a long standing member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton and she loved watching old movies. Preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. Conkel, "Conk" in 2007; daughters Sharon Diane "Sherry" Conkel-Burden in 1997, son-in-law Doug Burden in 2013 and Julie Ann Conkel-Palmer in 2000; and her grandson, Derek Palmer in 1987. Astrid is survived by her daughter, Jo (Bud) Marsteller; son, Jeff (Mary) Conkel; son-in-law, Greg Palmer; granddaughters, Carrie Tallent, Maggie Keller and Jackie Palmer; grandsons, Steve D. Burden, Bud Marsteller IV and Wesley Palmer; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Madison, Noah, Jackson, Kira and Cooper; and her sister, Zelma Furniss. A reception to celebrate Astrid's life will be held from 12:00am-2:00pm on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 81 N. Main Street, Centerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G.
