HUNTINGTON, Carl W., age 85 of Centerville, passed away April 8, 2013. Born in Liberty IN on June 22, 1927, Carl was the son of Wilbur W. and Cordelia (nee Shepard) Huntington. He attended Hamilton OH schools and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1945. He received his BS degree in chemistry from Heidelberg College in 1949 and his MS degree in chemistry from the University of Cincinnati in 1953. On August 7, 1949 he married Heidelberg classmate Joan K. Iams in Upper Sandusky OH. After a period of employment as a control chemist with the Champion Paper and Fibre Co., Hamilton, and the Cooper Tire and Rubber Co, Findlay, Carl began a 37-year career in the nuclear energy field in laboratory and management positions with the National Lead Co. of Ohio, Fernald; the United Nuclear Corp., Hematite MO; and Monsanto Research Corp. and EG&G at the Mound Plant in Miamisburg. He retired in October, 1990 after 25 years at Mound as a Research Group Leader, Manager of Technical Communications, and Classification Officer. Carl was proud of his association with Mound and considered himself fortunate to have known and worked with many talented friends and colleagues at Mound and other Department of Energy plants and laboratories. Carl was a member of Normandy United Methodist Church since 1966 and served on several church committees, including five years as secretary of the Council on Ministries. He was very devoted to his wife, family, and home; he especially enjoyed tending his yard and landscaping. Carl is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Julie K. Huntington. His is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joan; daughter, Jane L. Wilson of Kettering; grandson, Shane T. Wilson of Kettering; granddaughter, Shannon M. Wilson of Kettering; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dorothy Huntington of Hamilton; nephews, Steven Huntington of Hamilton and Michael Huntington of Mason; nieces, Linda Kettman and Nancy Bennett, both of Hamilton; and their families. Family will greet friends on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 10:00-12:00pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH 45429. Funeral services will follow at 12:00pm, also at the Routsong Funeral Home, with Rev. James Riggs officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Burial Park, Hamilton, OH. In memory of Carl, contributions may be made to the Building Fund, Normandy United Methodist Church, 450 W. Alex-Bell Rd., Centerville OH 45459, Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton OH 45420 or Humane Society of Greater Dayton, 1661 Nicholas Rd., Dayton, OH 45417.
