Carolyn D. Young

YOUNG, Carolyn D., age 75, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Preceded in death by her parents Lillian Louise (Wilson) and Rex Duncan. Carolyn is survived by her children; Marcie L. Moore of Kettering, OH, Sandra L. (Steve) Linn of LaGrange, IL, and Russ D. (Leslie) Young of Raleigh, NC; and grandchildren Ryan and Taylor Moore, Casey and Alex Linn, and Eric, Mark and Jason Young. She received her BA in English from DePauw University in 1958. Carolyn was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She still kept in touch with several sorority sisters from her years at DePauw. She was also a member of the alum club which provides scholarships to University of Dayton women. Carolyn cherished her 16 years at Miami Valley School. She was a good friend and listener to students, parents, and faculty. She was passionate for the mission of Places, Inc. where she was director of human resources until she retired in 2003. Places, Inc. provides quality housing and supportive living services to adults who have been diagnosed with mental health disorders. Carolyn was a lifelong resident of Centerville. She enjoyed the historical district where her father had a hardware store for many years. Carolyn was a devoted member of David's UCC for 51 years, choir member for 35 years, Elder, and served on several pastoral and music search committees. She was an avid bridge player and forged lifelong friendships across the card table. Carolyn will be remembered by many for her warmth, sense of humor, and infectious smile. Family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00pm on Friday, July 20, 2012 at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at David's United Church of Christ, 170 W. David Road, Kettering, Ohio 45429 with Rev. Dr. Brian Q. Newcomb officiating.
