Catharine Ames Booker

BOOKER, Catharine, Ames Fitzgerald, age 74, of Oakwood, died Friday, June 30, 2000 at home. She was born in Union City, Indiana, the daughter of Heber and Mary Ames Fitzgerald. Catharine graduated from Sweet Briar College, Virginia and was president of the Alumnae Association, editor of the Alumnae Magazine, and on the Board of Trustees. She was co-author with Rosamond Young of Twelve Seconds to the Moon and The Great Lady of First Street. She was a Republican Party Precinct Captain, member of the Oakwood Republican Women's Club, Planned Parenthood, Oakwood Historical Society, League of Women Voters, the Christ Episcopal Church Endowment Fund committee and the Dayton Country Club. Preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Booker, M.D. and a sister, Betty Booth Beck. Survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fitzgerald and Jessica Booker of Durham, NC; her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ames and Daniel Sheret of Medford, OR; 2 granddaughters, Sarah Kathleen and Emily Ames Booker; a grandson, William Lewis Booker; a sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne and William Van Horne of Columbus, OH; and a sister, Mary Alice Bennet of Sarasota, FL. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday at Christ Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sweet Briar College, Virginia or to the Christ Episcopal Church Endowment Fund, 20 W. First St., Dayton, Ohio 45402.
