BLACK, Catharine Bieser, age 72, died on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Cathie attended and graduated from The Madeira School and Wellesley College. In the years after graduation she worked at WHIO-TV and later, at Show magazine in New York City. She was a district manager and salesperson for Doncaster women's clothing for over 30 years. Cathie loved the outdoors. She was an avid skier and often participated in the annual December "ski camp" in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She liked to travel to Europe to ski with a group led by former Olympic skier and friend, Penny Pitou. She loved horses and riding, and was a long time member of the Miami Valley Hunt. Another great passion was traveling. Cathie was always ready to jump on the next plane, boat, or camel to explore some new part of the globe. For several years, she worked as a travel consultant for Huffman Travel, where she enjoyed creating, promoting, and leading trips to Africa and other exotic destinations. Gardening and conservation were also interests. She was a member of both The Four Seasons Garden Club and The Garden Club of Dayton and was a supporter of Cox Arboretum and Aullwood. Cathie was deeply committed to the communities of Dayton and Springfield, where she lived for many years. She was a sustaining member of The Junior League of Dayton and served on many community boards including The Boonshoft Museum, The Dayton Art Institute Associate Board, the Red Cross and many others. She was a long time supporter of the Springfield Art Museum. She also served as a director of the French Oil Mill Machinery Company in Piqua, Ohio. Cathie was a vibrant, energetic woman who always enjoyed a good party and any opportunity to have fun. She cherished her family and looked forward to the annual summer visit of her grandchildren which everyone called "Camp Ya-Ya". She was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin Gruen Bieser, Sr. and Catharine French Bieser. She is survived by her children, Courtenay Marvin Adams (David) and Clitus Harry Marvin IV (Courtney); grandchildren, Amelia Talbott Adams, Cuyler Rockwell Adams. Lillian Hannon Marvin and Clitus Harry Wolcott Marvin, all of Jackson, Wyoming; a brother, Irvin Gruen Bieser, Jr. (Tracy) and a niece, Sidney Albers Bieser of Dayton; many cousins and friends.
