Daniel M. Mckinnon

August 18, 1966 — September 8, 2021

MCKINNON, Daniel M. age 55, formerly of Kettering, Ohio passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. Dan was born in 1966 to James H. and Shirley A. (Leyes) McKinnon. He was a graduate of Fairmont High School in 1984. After graduation, Dan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where his service included multiple overseas deployments as well as combat operations as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician in Iraq. After retirement from active duty as a Gunnery Sergeant in the Marines in 2004, Dan continued to work as an EOD technician for several companies before he ultimately joined the Army Civilian Corps where he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers until his passing. Dan was a boisterous and fun-loving man who made an untold number of friends in his short life. No matter what he was doing, if any of his friends or family were in need of help, Dan would drop what he was doing to lend a hand. An avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, Dan could always be counted on to be the loudest voice in the room whenever the Buckeyes scored a touchdown.

Dan was preceded in death by his father James McKinnon. He is survived his loving wife of 29 years, Kimberly K. (Carraway) McKinnon; his mother Shirley A. Wall; sons: Joseph Fisher and his wife Karen; Travis McKinnon and his fiancée Naomi Coleman; daughter: Jaqui Beebe; 1 granddaughter, Kate; 3 grandsons: Dylan, Ace and Sean; 1 sister: Janice Carpenter; 2 Brothers: Dennis McKinnon and his wife Mary; Michael McKinnon and his wife Michele and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private memorial ceremony for family and close friends will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E Stroop Rd., Kettering, Ohio. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Loma Linda Hospital and Calstro Hospice, Riverside, CA for the wonderful care and support they provided to Dan and our family during the final weeks of his life. In lieu of flowers, if desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the EOD Warrior Foundation.
