Dorothy L. Scarpelli

SCARPELLI, Dorothy L., age 91, formerly of Kettering, Ohio passed away on March 24, 2013 at the Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center in Franklin Grove, Illinois. In her last weeks, Unity Hospice of Western Illinois joined the Franklin Grove staff in her comfort and care. She was a lifelong resident of the Dayton, Ohio area until she moved to Illinois in 2008. She was a member of the Jonathan Dayton Chapter of the Daughers of the American Revolution and John Pirelli Lodge #1633 Order Sons of Italy. Thomas J. Scarpelli Sr. and Dorothy L. Glasscoe were married on August 24, 1940. She was preceded in death by her: parents LaFayette and Gertrude Glasscoe; husband Thomas J. Scarpelli Sr. of 43 years in 1984; partner James Washabaugh in 2008; sisters Velma Dodson, Martha Coulton, and Hettie Mae Haack; brothers Lafe and David Glasscoe. She is survived by her son Thomas J. (Kris) Scarpelli Jr. of Amboy, Illinois, first daughter-in-law Connie J. Scarpelli of Bay Village, Ohio, granddaughter Amanda (Don) Megliola and great grandchildren Don Thomas and Ella of Ashburn, Virginia and Grandson Aaron (Shelly) Scarpelli and great grandchild Ryan of Ashburn, Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy loved and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved family and friends and kept in contact with them over the years. She will be remembered as a "lovely sweet lady who liked to laugh and enjoy life." Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering, Ohio with Reverend Maureen McCarthy-Magill officiating. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In memory of Dorothy, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Pk., Dayton, OH 45420. Honorary pallbearers are Henry Dodson, Sam Dodson, Philip Dreety, Don Megliola, Don Thomas Megliola, Aaron Scarpelli and Ryan Scarpelli.
