Douglas Frank Koch

January 15, 1946 — December 17, 2020

KOCH, Douglas Frank, our beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, December 17th, 2020 surrounded by family. Douglas was born January 15th, 1946 in Dayton, OH to Frank and Stella Koch.

As a child he loved fishing, skating, and technology. For his academic prowess he received a scholarship to study at MIT before being drafted into the Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star for valor in combat and a Purple Heart for being wounded in the line of duty.

On May 24th, 1980 he married Carlijn van der Hoeven and together they raised a daughter and a son, Kari and Peter. They loved and cared for each other and their family unconditionally over the next 40 years. Upon his return home from the service, he became a tool maker and founded Koch Systems, Inc. He was a true leader and innovator, changing the way the world consumed canned beverages by inventing the stay on tab for the wide mouth can lids. His success in life afforded him to pursue his passions of aviation, golf, and model railroading.

After years of hard work and receiving his private pilot’s license, he was able to make his dream come true purchasing his Cessna P210, N842CP. “It’s always clear skies above the clouds!” he would say. He was known for his strong character, quick wit, his compassion towards all living things, and his heart of gold. He always made sure his family came first and wanted for nothing.

Doug is preceded in death by his father, Frank, and his mother Stella. He is survived by his wife Carlijn, his children Kari (and Kevin) O’Neal, Peter Koch, and his grandson Wyatt O’Neal. A private funeral service will be held on December 29, 2020 for immediate family only.
