Earl Eugene Smith

SMITH, Earl Eugene "Gene", age 95, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 29, 2013. He was born on June 13, 1918 in Trotwood, OH to the late Earl C. and Sarah (Lentz) Smith. Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Dorothy (Mastbaum) Smith who left us in April of 2010. He worked at General Motors Inland Division for 33 years, along with farming an 80 acre farm near Brookville, OH. Gene enjoyed spending time with his family and working in his garden. He leaves behind his two daughters and their spouses, Genie and Gary Hutton and Lisa and Jerry Meranda; five grandchildren, David Lawrence, Brian (Carey) Lawrence, Kara (Brian) Westerfield, Matthew Meranda and Chris (Ginny) Meranda; 7 great-grandchildren, Noah Lawrence, Jacob and Benjamin Lawrence, Logan, Liam, Lydia and Lauren Westerfield; and many nieces and nephews. Gene is also survived by 4 sisters, Bonnie (Pete) Cummings, Myrna Smoot, Ellen (Leonard) Duke, Sylvia Rice; and in-law's Marilyn Smith, Evelyn Steiner, Barbara Mastbaum, Joseph (Pat) Mastbaum and Vincent (Marilyn) Mastbaum. He was preceded in death by his 4 brothers, Lowell, Carl, Bill and Bob Smith; and 3 sisters, Marie Landis, Helen Shephard and Miriam Welch; and many other family members. Family and friends will be received from 2:00-4:00pm on Sunday July 7th at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main Street, Centerville. A funeral service will take place following the visitation at 4:00pm also at the funeral home. Interment will be at Calvary cemetery.
