Elwood L. Byrkett

BYRKETT, Elwood (Pete) Leon, age 97 of Kettering, Ohio passed away on May 18, 2014. He was born on December 18, 1916 in Miami County, Ohio, the son of Walter and Mary (Curtis) Byrkett. He was a long time member of Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ in Kettering, OH) and Elder Emeritus. Elwood started working at Sheffield Corporation in November 1945 which later became the Automation and Measurement Division of Bendix Corporation from which he retired in June 1979. He started in the Engineering Department and later became Director of Manufacturing. He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian (Keeran) Byrkett, his parents, brother and sister-in-law Clyde and Ruth Byrkett, sister Hildred Byrkett, and sisters-in-law Rosemary Filbrun and Elizabeth Rayle. He is survived by two sons, Donald Byrkett and wife Paula, Oxford, Ohio, Bruce Byrkett and wife Norma, Preston, Washington, and one daughter, Jane Nickerson and husband Steve, Xenia, Ohio. He is survived by six granddaughters, Elizabeth Killy, Jennifer Jensen, Kathryn Byrkett, Colleen Darnell, Carrie Rothman, and Kimberly Lappala, and nine great grandchildren, Jessica Killy, Nathan Jensen, Samuel Jensen, Elise Killy, Benjamin Jensen, Connor Darnell, Owen Darnell, Logan Darnell, and Hunter Rothman, with one more on the way. He is also survived by sister-in-law Margie Stevenson, McComb, Ohio, and eight nieces and three nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering, Ohio, Reverend Doug Schoaff officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial services will follow at Wheelock Cemetery.
