Ernest E Martin

MARTIN, Ernest, 90, of Kettering passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at the Kettering Medical Center. Ernest was born on January 13, 1918 in Akron, Ohio to the late Galliano and Mary Martin. He was a graduate of The University of Akron and the University of Dayton. Ernest served 35 combined years of military and civilian service with the Army Corps and the United States Air Force. He retired as a Lt. Col. from the USAF and was a Veteran WWII and the Korean Conflict. Ernie retired as Chief of Operation from the Aerospace Lab at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. During his career, he helped build and operate the first AF Human Centrifuge. Ernie helped develop the AF anti-G suit and the G-valve and equip the fighter A/C during WWII with G suits and valves. He was the project engineer of the first human aircraft pickup and was responsible for numerous technical publications. Ernie was awarded a Meritorious Civilian Service Award. He was a member of the Aerospace Medical Association and was awarded a Fellow, Millennium Lodge, Masonic Temple, Antioch Shrine Club, the Arabic Club and was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Ernie was preceded in death by 2 brothers, William and Robert and his first wife, Marjorie Jane Martin and his second wife, Florence H. Martin (nee Maharg). Ernie is survived by his daughter, Alison (Dr. Jerry) Lang; son, Fred (Sandee) Lageman; and four grandchildren, Lara (John) DeRoule, Brian (Amanda) Lang, Jonathan and David (Kari) Lageman. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 27 at 11:00AM at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering with Rev. Kay Davis-Dudding officiating. Ernie's family will receive friends from 10-11:00AM prior to the service also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, 1313 W.
