George D. Monington

MONINGTON, George D., age 88 of Kettering, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013. George was born on October 11, 1924 in Dayton, Ohio to the late William and Ethel (Bland) Monington. George graduated from Parker High School in 1942. He was inducted into the US Army in 1943 where he was assigned to an infantry unit and sent to N. Africa. He was part of an invasion in Italy in Jan. 1943 and Southern France in Aug. 1944. George returned home in Dec. 1945. He attended Denison University and later graduated from the University of Dayton in 1951. George worked in the building industry for 51 years, the last 12 of which he spent with the City of Kettering as Building Inspector. Preceded in death by his first wife, Bettye and second wife, Virginia. George is survived by his wife, Laura Oliver Monington; her children, Carolyn North, Suzanne Goehring and Jeff Oliver; step-children from his second wife, Sherri Huston, Amy Friesel, and George Friesel; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews from all three marriages. Family will greet friends on Wednesday 13th from 1:00-2:00 pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday 13th at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Matthew Goehring officiating. Burial to follow in David's Cemetery.
