Georgia Afendoules

AFENDOULES, Georgia, passed away at the age of 100 on October 20, 2021, at her home in San Diego, CA. Born on September 28, 1921 in East St. Louis, IL to citizens of Greece, Dimitra and Christ Terzoupoulos, her family returned to Patras, Greece shortly after her birth. At the onset of World War II, her parents sent her back to East St. Louis to live with her uncle and aunt, John and Harriet Terss where she enjoyed traveling with them and also worked in the family restaurant. In 1947, she settled in Dayton, OH where she met and married Michael Afendoules. The couple had a son and four daughters. Georgia relocated to San Diego, CA in 1995 to be near her daughter Katherine and her young family. Georgia is survived by her daughters and their families; Mimi and Mark Jergens of MT and their daughter Megan and her husband Jason Ramirez of WA, Marianne and John Lerro of PA and their daughter Regina Lerro of FL, Katherine Emmenegger and her children Alexandra and Josef Emmenegger of CA. She is also survived by grandchildren Michael Easter of OH, Christine Hammer and her husband Jason Russi and her daughters, Georgia’s great grandchildren, Alexandra and Sophia Hammer of OH, her sister Helen Stephanides of Athens, Greece, and numerous nieces and nephews. Georgia was preceded in death by her husband Michael, son Christ, and daughter Penelope Easter. Georgia was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Dayton, OH for forty-eight years where she served as a Sunday school teacher, president of the Philoptochos Society, and president of the Daughters of Penelope. She was a long time member of the Eastern Star, Acacia and Belmont chapters. She enjoyed a position with the Kettering School System in food service. In CA, she was active in the community of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Cardiff and St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church of San Diego. She was a member of the Philoptochos Society and the Daughters of Penelope of Southern California.

Family will greet friends from 4:00pm-6:00pm Sunday, November 7 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 8 at 11:00am at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 500 Belmonte Park North, Dayton, OH 45405. Burial in Woodland Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
