Harold O. Farris

FARRIS, Harold Olin, age 92, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016. He was born April 20, 1924 in Mt. Clare, West Virginia, the oldest of the six children of Hiram Olin and Virginia Ruth (Satterfield) Farris. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of 60+ years, Beth (Berglund); his brother, John; sisters Velma Nixon, Patricia (Pat) Browder and Naomi Jean Clise; and his half-sisters Clarice Simmons and Evelyn George. He is survived by son Ray, Maumee, Ohio; son Mark and wife, Cindy, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; daughter Lori and husband, Michael Eby, Battle Ground, Washington; five grandchildren: Jason Farris, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Jennifer Farris (Patrick) Erley, Seattle, Washington; Melissa Eby (Taric) Doyle, Marana, Arizona; Joshua Eby, Portland, Oregon; Grant Eby, Battle Ground, Washington; two great grandsons, Conner and Caden Doyle, Marana, Arizona; one sister: Eleanora (Roy Gene) Archer, Charleston, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews. Harold attended public schools in Clarksburg, WV, graduating with the Washington Irving High School Class of 1941. He earned an undergraduate degree at Oberlin College and a Masters degree at Miami University, both in Ohio. He was a veteran of WW II, having served 38 months in the U. S. Army Air Force. His foreign service was in England, France and Germany. He was employed by the Boy Scouts of America for 12 years before taking up a long career in Human Resource management. Our Dad loved fishing and woodworking. A memorial service will be held at Normandy United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2016. The family will receive friends at the Church the hour before the service (10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m.) and during lunch after the service. Interment will be at the Dayton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Normandy United Methodist Church, 450 West Alex-Bell Road, Centerville, Ohio 45459; Berea College, Berea, Kentucky 40404.
