J. Bachman Brown

October 24, 1922 — July 18, 2001

age 78, passed away on July 17, 2001 at his home in Kettering, OH. Born October 24, 1922, he was the only son of Hayward Brown and Lillian May Eaton. Bach graduated with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Case Western Reserve University, and worked as an electrical engineer for the Thomas Strip Division of U.S. Steel, at Pittsburgh Steel, and at Ajax Magnathermic Corp. He also worked as a consulting engineer before retiring in 1991. One of the founding members of Trumbull New Theatre in Niles, Ohio, Bach designed the lighting and sound systems for the theatre building, and acted in numerous productions over the course of 40 years with the theatre. He also was an actor with the Youngstown Playhouse. He served in the U.S. Army from May 26, 1943 until he was honorably discharged on February 26, 1946. He was a Tec-4 (Sgt.) Radio Operator, and served with the 3155th Signal Service Company, helping to intercept and break Japanese radio codes, which later led to the American victory in the Battle of Midway. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Brown. He is survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Janet and Emory Michel; two sons and their wives - David Hayward Brown and his wife, Marilyn Barth, and Jeffrey Peter Brown and his wife Peggy Brown. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M., July 21, 2001, at David's Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel on Mad River Road in Kettering. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to remember Bach make a donation to Trumbull New Theatre, 5883 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles, Ohio 44446.
