Jamison Ian Miles

Jamison “Jamie” Ian Miles, aged 42, of Lebanon, Ohio, unexpectedly passed away on January 28, 2022, due to cardiac arrest.
This sudden loss leaves a huge hole in the heart and lives of the people that adored Jamie for his compassion for others, vivid imagination and great hope for humanity.
Jamie was born on January 31, 1979, to Randall and Glenda Miles in Troy, Ohio. Born with a rare illness, Congenital Rubella Syndrome (and a discouraging Physician list of assumed worst case scenarios), his parents immediately immersed him with any and all kinds of “presume competence” and community based services. At 6 mos. of age, he enrolled into an early intervention program of intensive therapies to stimulate his development. At age five, he entered his local public schools. He graduated from Troy High School in 1997, and went on to study German at Edison State Community College.
During his school years, he developed an extreme interest and strength in multiculturalism, in language, music and art. Through school assignments about global citizenship and his curiosity about the world, he self-taught himself many worldly languages by learning their alphabets and reading materials. He was especially fascinated by German, Greek, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Russian. He created hand written dictionaries and dubbed his Disney books in favorite languages. He even wrote a letter to President Mikhail Gorbachev congratulating him for winning the Nobel Peace Prize for Peace. He also was a gifted musician who could play the guitar, piano and synthesizer by ear. In 9th grade he was nominated to design the American eagle which was appliquéd onto giant flags which flew in the City Square and then traveled abroad. He was also quite the expert in the nationwide NBC Peacock logo and left no one quizzed with 100% accuracy.
After graduation and the release of Star Trek: First Contact, Jamie packed away his Wookie Village and Star Fighter and officially left the Star Wars Warrior life behind and entered Starfleet Command. This was the most important part of the past thirty years of his life. A for sure conversation starter: anything Star Trek. He was more than a passionate fan, he felt a belonging to the mission and crew. Themes of humor, courage, honor, and teamwork helped him during tough times. He couldn’t wait for Comic Con’s, Star Trek Conventions and other gatherings to meet up with other fans. His love of words found a home in the United Federation of Planets where he translated and invented sentient languages. He was even sought out by Klingons because Jamie was one the rare ones who could have a good insult throw down and knew “Hab SoSlI' meant “Your mother has a smooth forehead!”
Jamie had big plans for 2022. Star Trek: Mission Chicago convention in April. A concert with his favorite 90’s band, Loverboy in June, Star Trek: Mission Chicago convention in April. Meeting up with his Greek friend Pandelis to give him a special holiday gift. Wearing his new Back to the Future movie futuristic-style clothes for movie marathons. Returning to Half Price Books for more bargain collecting with his Mom. Seeing his friends Pastor Wallace and Juan and hanging out in his Trekked-out office at Unity Care Center.
Even with our shock and sadness, we are honoring the joyful gifts he is leaving us. As someone who was the receiver of care: he cared for others. He lived simply for each day and didn’t carry burdens of judgments or hostility. He loved agape style with a faithful benevolent heart. He was a content tender man without attachment to society’s illusions of achievements or power. He suited up. He didn’t amour up.
Jamie is survived by a far-reaching birth and chosen family of people. He was consistently bragged about, told stories of, thought of, cared for and generously spoiled at Christmas and birthday’s (with you guessed it) his favorite unique collectibles. Throughout his unique life and adventures he was always surprised by others interest in him and typically replied when complimented with a “Why, thank, you, I am honored!” He has inspired family members and others to choose careers in disability care, advocacy, social work, nursing, teaching, performing arts, activism and agency creation.
There will be a Jolan tru (Peace be with you) Celebration of Jamie’s life on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 5:00-6:30PM at Unity Care Center 650 Congress Park Dr, Dayton, OH 45459.
