THOMAS, Jane Carol, age 78, of Burt Lake MI. & Bonita Springs, FL., passed away Friday, October 28, 2011, in Petoskey, Michigan. Jane was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 15, 1933. She grew up in Dayton, Ohio and graduated from Oakwood High School in 1951. While attending OHS, Jane played field hockey and was the homecoming queen. She graduated from Stephens College and earned a BA in Education from the University of Missouri, in Columbia, Missouri. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. This is where she met her 1st husband, Gerald Rapp. On August 14, 1954 she married Gerald ‘Jerry’ Rapp, in Dayton, Ohio. They raised a family in Dayton and spent their summers on Burt Lake, Michigan. On Jane’s birthday in 1997, she married W. Everett Thomas, in Toledo, Ohio. Jane enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and her dog, Angie. She was a devoted sister, mother and grandmother, who generously gave her love to all. Her hobbies were knitting, needlepoint and gardening. She passed on her skills with the crafts to the next 2 generations. She was an avid tennis, paddle tennis player and golfer. She made a ‘hole in one’ while playing golf, one beautiful day in northern Michigan. She enjoyed having friends and family visit her at both her residences. Jane had a fun personality that everyone loved to be around. She was a member of: Garden Club of Dayton, Junior League of Dayton, Cox Arboretum , Burt Lake Preservation Association, Tipp of the Mitt Water Council and Little Traverse Conservancy. Jane was preceded in death by her parents Edward R. Sr MD and Frances Uhl Thomas, her husbands; Gerald Rapp Sr. and W. Everett Thomas. She is survived by her children, Gerald Rapp Jr. of Costa Rica, Gregory Rapp of Palm Springs, CA and Amy Frances Rapp of Durango, CO.; grandchildren, Kyle, Barry (Cynthya), Ems (Nic), Jamie Jane and Riley all of Durango, CO.; great grandchildren, Conan and Ryder; stepchildren, Andrew Thomas (Tracy) and Catherine Sullivan (Dan); step grandchildren, Elizabeth, Gretchen, Kate, Annie, Thomas and Peter; and her brother Dr. Edward R. (Pam) Thomas Jr. MD of Kettering, OH.; and many nieces and nephew and cousins. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 6:00-8:00PM at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 2 at 11:00AM also at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Jane’s honor to The Thomas Family Educational Fund, Citizens National Bank, PO Box 307, Alanson, MI, 49706-0307.
