Jane Sever Heywood

HEYWOOD, Jane Sever, age 100, of Oakwood, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021. Jane was born on July 20, 1921 in Lewisburg, OH to the late Ralph and Pauline (Smith) Sever. She graduated from Miami University with a degree in Journalism and worked for the Detroit Press before moving to New York to work for World Book. Jane was an elegant, gracious woman who enjoyed reading and traveling the world. She was athletic and loved many physical activities including ice skating, sailing, golf, tennis, walking, skiing, swimming, and yoga. Many happy years were spent as a devoted wife and mother, homemaker, gourmet cook/entertainer, gardener and “Francophile Extraordinaire”. She believed “all things in moderation” and had a disciplined and balanced regime that served as a role model for all.

She always believed in helping others and was a loyal volunteer over the years with various organizations including Kettering Hospital Gift Shop, Planned Parenthood Book Loft, and Vital Signs (a senior sign language entertainment ensemble). She was a charter member and served in many capacities including as an Elder and Sunday School teacher at Fairmont Presbyterian Church.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dr. Howard Heywood. She is survived by her children, Laura J. Heywood-Dimlich, Sarah H. Bugden, and Scott S. Heywood. Our heartfelt thanks to the residents of 333 Oakwood Ave., Judy Gentry, VITAS Healthcare, Bonnie Wooten and all the staff of Loving Senior Home Care, and family and friends for their guidance, prayers, superb care, and loving support during this challenging period.

A small memorial service and burial at Mound Hill Cemetery, Eaton Ohio will be held at a later date in the care of ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, KETTERING.
