Janet Nellie Alban

ALBAN, Janet Nellie (nee Hinkle), age 96, of Kettering, OH, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2020. Janet was born September 23, 1923 in Columbus, OH to Carl and Mabel (Graham) Hinkle.

She lived most of her life in southern Delaware County, moving to Kettering in 2012. Janet received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Medical Technology and in Education from Otterbein College. She worked as a medical technologist, and went on to have a 12 year career as a high school science and biology teacher for Mifflin High School and Delaware Hayes High School.

Janet loved traveling in a camper/RV across the United States and Canada with her husband and children. She took special delight in campfires and views of the night moon. She enjoyed the comradery of traveling with other members of the Central Ohio Argosy Travel Club as far away as Alaska. Janet was an animal lover and activist, supporting animal shelters and pet rescue programs, all the while spending time with her own beloved pets.

She was an avid bridge player, a piano and flute player, a stamp collector, and a member of many social, religious, and community organizations. She prayed daily and was a member of the Berlin Presbyterian Church of Lewis Center, Ohio. Janet had a green thumb, and grew flowers and food in a large family garden that gave her enjoyment and pride.

She also studied genealogy of the Hinkle family, publishing an impressive 5 books on the subject. Her greatest love though, was her family. Janet was a devoted and loving mother who took great pride in hosting family reunions.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; husband William R. “Bill” Alban; son, Gary Alban; and sister Marie Elizabeth (Hinkle) Lum. She is survived by son Ronald Alban; grandsons Eric and Marc Alban; and great-grandsons Eli, Arthur and Everett Alban.

A private service will be held at the Berlin Presbyterian Church, adjacent to Africa Cemetery, in Delaware County.
