Jeanne Beckert Collins

Jeanne Beckert Collins passed away on August 25, 2014 in Centerville, Ohio. She was born on May 12, 1923 to Genevieve (nee Adams) Beckert and Florenz Beckert in Columbus, Ohio. She graduated from Bexley High School in 1940 and attended Ohio State University. She left OSU shortly after the start of World War II to work at the Defense Supply Center in Columbus where she met her husband of 52 years, Neil Collins. Jeanne was an avid swimmer and bowler and enjoyed gardening. She had a keen eye for design, favoring Colonial-style architecture and she enjoyed shopping for and collecting antiques, especially furniture. She was active in the Beaux Arts Society of the Columbus Art Museum in the 1950s. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Neil and her niece Constance Kay Lydic; Jeanne is survived by her sons Neil (Wanda) of Yakima, Wash., Edward of Dayton, Ohio, Christopher (Pam) of Stow, Ohio and Timothy (Shannon L. Price) of Bushnell, Ill. Also surviving are her grandchildren Angela Collins Leary, Neil Brent Collins, Brian Carlos Collins, Daniel Price Collins and her sister, Marjorie Beckert Kay of Capitola, Cal. Also, surviving are great grandsons Mason and Braden Leary. There will be no formal calling hours. A funeral mass will be held at at 9:30am on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at St. Leonard Faith Community, 8100 Clyo Road, Centerville. She will be interred at the Dayton National Cemetery with her husband. Her family would like to thank the staff at St. Leonard Health and Rehabilitation Center in Centerville and Hospice of Dayton for their tender and loving care of Jeanne in her final years. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be sent to Hospice of Dayton, 342 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45420.
