John Phillips Brown

BROWN, John Phillips, age 80, of Centerville, OH passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. John was born on February 17, 1939, to the late James Maxwell and Ruth Edna Brown, in Philadelphia, PA.

His family moved to Florida where he graduated from Edgewater HS in Orlando and attended college at Florida State and Miami of Florida. John had been a resident of Centerville for 36 years.

He was a member of Centerville Citizens Police Academy Alumni, CCPAA, and volunteered for the Centerville Police Department for many years. He was also a member of Central Christian Church in Kettering, OH, where he served as Deacon and was very active on several committees. John enjoyed getting the face of the church out there to the public and planned and executed church floats for various local parades. John was a 32˚ Mason and a member of Millennium Lodge #779 F.&A.M. and A.A.S.R. Valley of Dayton. He was a veteran of the Air Force and served during the Vietnam era. John retired as a Civil Servant from Wright Patterson AFB after 23 years. He and his spouse then opened a new business in Lebanon, OH called Mail Boxes ETC, now known as UPS stores. For seven years John enjoyed going around Lebanon taking delivery orders for crating, and shipping. After that, he became a Chase Bank teller for a number of years. John didn't know how to retire. He just kept going until his final retirement from Chase due to health issues.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, James Allen Brown. He is survived by his spouse of 40 years, Joyce Ray ­Brown; daughter, Beverly Anne Johnson; son, Robert Michael (Song Suk) Brown; grandchildren, Kristopher Aaron (Raquel Stuckey) Johnson, Erin Alysse Johnson, Christina Brown; great-grandchild, Xavier Leon Johnson; sister-in-law, Anneliese Brown; nephews, Charles Jason Brown, James William (Holly) Brown; and great-nieces, Jessica and Kirstin Brown.

Family will greet friends from 1-3pm on Sunday, December 22 at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N Main St, Centerville, followed by a Masonic service. A Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Monday, December 23 at the funeral home. Burial in Lebanon Cemetery. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.routsong.com.
