John S. "Jack" Delphenich

DELPHENICH, John Stewart "Jack", age 90, of Kettering, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013. Jack, a retired Lt. Colonel of the USAF, was born to the late William and Viola Delphenich on April 11, 1923 in La Crosse, WI. Jack served his country during WWII in the Army. Following his honorable discharge, he earned his degree in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin. During the Korean War, Jack was recalled by the Air Force to serve and remained active while he was working for Battelle in Columbus developing Xerox. During the 10 years he spent as a chemist working for Dow Corning in Midland, MI, he got 4 patents on the aerospace applications of silicones. He later retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where he worked in the Foreign Technology Division. Jack was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and he volunteered his time with the Boy Scouts and ushered at Memorial Hall. He loved volksmarching, genealogy, travel, astronomy and keeping his bird feeders full. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ellen Allen. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Carli Delphenich; children, William (Pam) of Maine, David of Kettering, Chris of Dayton, Anne (David) of Anacortes, WA, Dennis (Susan) of Waynesville, and Eric (Natalie) of Salt Lake City; and grandsons, Alec, Matthew, Roman and Aiden. A Funeral service will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering. Family will greet friends following the service until 6:00pm. Burial will take place on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Dayton National Cemetery at 12:00noon. The family would like to send a special thank you to all the caregivers that gave such special care to Jack.
