Katherine Loftin Hawkins

HAWKINS, Katherine "Kay" Loftin passed away on December 24, 2011, following a sudden illness. Born in San Antonio, Texas, on June 20, 1922, she graduated from Baylor University in Waco with a degree in Journalism and Business Administration. She met Stewart D. Hawkins in Texas where he was stationed as an Air Force pilot. They married on July 9, 1944, and eventually settled in Dayton, Ohio. She worked as a bridal consultant for the Rike-Kumler Company and was the Executive Secretary to the Superintendent of the Kettering Schools for twenty years. She was active in her church (St. Paul's Episcopal, and later the First Church of Christ Scientist). She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Kay loved flowers and creating colorful gardens all around their home. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Mattie H. and Jere Boren Loftin, and her brother, Jere B. Loftin, Jr. Her husband, Stewart D. Hawkins, passed away March 22, 2012. She is survived by her son, Stewart Jr., her daughter, Katherine "Kit", son-in-law Ian Randal Strock, ten nieces and nephews, and many friends. To celebrate their love and life together, a memorial service for Kay and Stu will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering with visitation from 1:00-2:00PM. Stu's Masonic service will begin at 2:00PM. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
