Marguerite Vaughan "Rita" Porter

PORTER, Marguerite Vaughan “Rita”, age 72,, formerly of Kettering, Ohio passed away Sunday, November 14th. Rita was born in Ruther Glen, VA on April 6, 1949 to Marguerite Halloway Vaughan and William H. Vaughan. She was a graduate of Caroline High School in Ruther Glen, VA and received her associate’s degree in Business from Marymount University in 1968.
Following graduation Rita worked for the Department of Defense at the Pentagon as an executive assistant. There she met her future husband, William J. Porter. After marrying on June 6, 1969 they moved to Rosslyn, VA, Anchorage, AK, San Antonio, TX, to finally settle in Kettering, OH as they raised their family for the next twenty years. Rita worked and volunteered with St. Albert the Great parish reading weekly to middle schoolers, being active in both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as a Den Mother and actively participating in the PTA. Her artistic abilities were seen throughout the halls of the St. Alberts’ grade school as well as her handmade Christmas cards.

Her true joy shone through in her love of family, faith, children and animals. Spending time in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia or walking along the Rappahannock River she would fondly recall her love of the countryside and beauty in nature and ensured her family spent as much time as possible entrenched in nature and it’s beauty.

Rita later moved back to her childhood home in Ruther Glen with her partner, Christoper as they enjoyed the Virginia countryside in all it’s splendor once again for the past 10 years. Only recently moving back to Ohio in 2019 as health issues and a wish to see her grandchildren became a priority.

Rita is survived by her son, William V. Porter; her daughter, Mary Marguerite Studebaker; her son in law, Dana Studebaker; and her beloved grandchildren, Samantha Studebaker and Porter Studebaker. Family will greet friends 4-7PM on Sunday, November 21 at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 2100 E STROOP RD, KETTERING, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 NOON on Monday, November 22 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 3033 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, OH.
