Marthena J. Sinkhorn

SINKHORN, Marthena J., age 92, of Kettering, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014. She was born on October 5, 1921 in Jamestown to the late Glennie and Opal Jenks. Marthena was in the first graduating class ('37) from Silvercreek High School in Jamestown, earned her Associates Degree, and was a business partner with her husband throughout their lives. She was a longtime member of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Dayton and served for many years as a Deaconess and CFO. Marthena took great pride in her many volunteering activities among which included Lifestyle Enrichment Center, Meals on Wheels, and tutoring in the Dayton Public Schools. Marthena spent countless hours volunteering at Memorial Presbyterian Church with her good friend Bev Kramer bringing a cheerful message to those in need. She enjoyed playing cards and was a caring and devoted friend. Those who knew her best describe her as being positive, forward thinking, loving, and forgiving. Marthena was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; brother, Ernest E. Jenks; and her parents. She is survived by her children, Mark (Marty) Sinkhorn of Dublin, OH and Kim Sinkhorn of Columbus, OH; granddaughter, Emily Sinkhorn of Eureka, CA; nieces and nephews, Michael (Sue) Jenks, Marsha Hoover, Scott (Belinda) Jenks, Beth Hanusik, Jim (Rose) Coleman, Mary (Ron) Weich, Sandra George, and Walter (Mary) Sinkhorn; many great nieces and nephews, tables of card players, friends, and a wonderful church family. The family will greet friends from 5:00-8:00pm on Monday, September 8, 2014 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Rd., Kettering. A funeral service will be held the following morning at 10:00am at Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1541 S. Smithville Rd., Dayton. Burial will follow at David's Cemetery in Kettering.
