Mary J. Austin

Mary J Austin, 92, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017. Mary was born Mary Josephine Thompson on October 12, 1925 in Dayton, Ohio. She attended the University of Dayton and soon met Don Austin who was also attending class at University Dayton. Mary told stories of how her future husband would sneak away from Wright Patterson Air Field to meet her in class and spend time with her. Then on September 19, 1946, Mary and Don were married. While raising 5 children, Mary completed her education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Capitol University in 1974. She worked as a Medical Technologist at the Good Samaritan Hospital Blood Bank, and went on to become Manager of the Hospital Blood Bank. Later, Mary later worked in the Research Lab at the Cox Heart Institute. She and Don also founded D & D Driving School in 1956. Mary had a variety of interests, including travel. She had visited Europe several times, as well as Columbia, Panama and Mexico. Mary was also an avid reader, the family genealogist, and enjoyed tending to her greenhouse and garden. What she loved most was spending time with her loving family and friends. Mary was preceded in death by Donald E. Austin, her loving husband of over fifty years and her brothers, Jim and John Thompson. She is survived by her children, Donald Austin Jr (Merry Beth), Peter Austin (Dorie), David Austin (Sharon), Stephen Austin (Sherri Lyn) and Sharon (Jim) Fife; Grandchildren Tim, Tammy, Stephanie, Brent, Dani, Fletcher, Abby (Dave), Bryan, Katherine (Will), Merry Ellen, Gillian, Allison (John), Jon, Jenny (Rob), Jack, David Jr, Brianna (Daniel), Matt, Ben, Elizabeth (Thomas); Great Grandchildren Sydney, Cleo and Jonah and her sisters, Rita Angerer, Rosalie Hoying and Ann Wey. A Memorial service will be held on January 13, 2018 at 10am, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd, Kettering, Ohio 45429.
