Melvin M. Slagle

August 6, 1903 — February 3, 2001

age 97 of Baton Rouge, LA, formerly of Oakwood, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 6, 1903, in Kirkpatrick, Ohio to Bert O. Slagle and Ida Edith Croft Slagle. Melvin retired from General Motors after 41 years of service. He moved to Baton Rouge in 1989 to be with his daughter, Marlene. Preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Edith Alberta Slagle Longacre. Survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen Wert Slagle; a daughter, Marlene L. S. Young and husband, Dr. Myron H. Young; grandchildren, Dr. Luke T. Young and wife, Dr. Ruth Whitelaw Young, Linda Young Lotfi and husband, Younes, Dr. David T. Young, Dr. Jonathan P. Young and Susan G. Young; and great grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah and Joshua Lotfi and Steven and Jessica Young. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday at Woodland Mausoleum, 118 Woodland Drive, Dayton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Mausoleum. The family is being served by Routsong Funeral Home.
