N. Jean Hocking

HOCKING, N. Jean, age 90, of Allen Park, MI, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019. Jean was born on September 27, 1929, in Detroit, to the late Thomas and Pauline (Stringfield) Carroll. She grew up in Detroit and after graduating from Pershing High School, had a fulfilling career with AAA up until her retirement. In her free time Jean loved gardening, discussing politics, and playing cards. She also had a great appreciation for classical music, opera, and ballet. Jean will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her particularly her sister and best friend Shirley.

Jean is preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 25 years. Robert and his attentive family loved Jean dearly and were amazing to her all of her life. Jean is also preceded in death by her brother, Jackie, who died tragically at the very young age of six. Jean is survived by her sister, Shirley Williams; niece, Susanna (Mike) Hughes; nephews, Nathan and Mathew (Evelyn) Stubbs; and other extended family.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to all of Jean’s thoughtful and caring neighbors, especially Bob Ramirez, Israel Gutierrez, and Tim Moore who were much more than just neighbors to her. And, a special thanks to Jean’s dear friend Beverley Harder, a constant friend and companion, who stood by her and helped take wonderful care of her during her final years. A private graveside service will be held at Michigan Memorial Park, Masonic Gardens, Flat Rock, Michigan.
