Rees W. Vosburg

May 19, 1937 — April 8, 2013

Even though he had not lived there for years, Scranton, PA. was home for Rees W. Vosburg. After all, it's where he played sandlot football, was a champion swimmer with an unbeaten record and acquired his preference for Italian food and the Steelers. His first name reflected his Welsh heritage which is where he received his love of music and words. He was an armchair conductor of classical music, but just as easily enjoyed Scott ... or Janis Joplin. When asked about Rees, most people would remark on his intelligence or humor. He loved a good discussion and had a unique way of looking at life, but he was also a storyteller and his dry wit could always generate a laugh. He used this wonderful gift to lighten the moment for friends, as well as, strangers. As comfortable outdoors as in, his love of nature made him a backpacker, camper, hiker, bicyclist and conservationist long before it was cool. Always ready for another adventure, Rees traveled extensively and rather than be a spectator, believed it was far better to experience the trail, the river, the mountain ... at least half way. Mr. Vosburg was a self made man struggling financially to graduate from college after his father died when Rees was a teenager. He went on to a masters degree, taught mentally challenged children, was a principal at a home for emotionally troubled children and then decided on entrepreneurship successfully owning and operating "The Book Case" bookstore. He liked this job because he was surrounded by books and had the best boss - himself. Privileged to carry on his spirit are his wife: Dolly Goscenski-Vosburg; daughters and sons-in-law: Bethany Vosburg-Bluem and John Bluem; Cara and Rodney Rhoades; favorite grandson: Tyler William Rhoades and of course, best friend, Trudy. He also leaves behind many human friends some dating back more years than they would like to admit. Those fortunate to call him friend were forever changed by that friendship as they will be by its loss. Younger looking than his age and much younger acting, Rees was a philosopher who was compassionate, passionate, sensitive, brave and courageous. In lieu of flowers, please plant some in his memory to make the world a little more beautiful ... or donate to Salvation Army, Daybreak or Bethania Presbyterian Church, Scranton, PA in his name, again, to make the world a little more beautiful. Visitation will be held on May 5 from 2 to 3:30 with a service at 3:30 followed by what Rees would enjoy - friendship and food - at Routsong Funeral Home at Woodman and Stroop. The family hopes that you will be able to stay for conversation and dinner. Interment will take place at a later date at the family cemetery in Dalton, P A.
