Robert Stevenson Tolles Jr.

TOLLES, Robert Stevenson, Jr., age 54, of Oakwood, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 1, 2003. He was born October 2, 1949 in Detroit, MI. Bob graduated from Seaholm High School (Birmingham, MI), University of Michigan (B.A. Political Science), where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, and Michigan State University (M.B.A. in Finance). He served in the U.S. Army Reserve. Bob was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Oakwood Rotary Club, NCR Country Club, and a volunteer with the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. He was an Eagle Scout and Assistant Scoutmaster for Oakwood Boy Scout Troop 101. Bob worked 21 years for the NCR Corporation as CFO NCR Netherlands, CFO Europe Group, and Treasurer NCR International. He also worked as the CFO of Hazco International, General Manager of Peter Li, Inc., and most recently, Director of Business Consulting for Battelle & Battelle LLP (regional CPA firm). He was devoted to his family and friends, loved sailing, fishing, genealogy, and spending time at his cottage in Michigan. Survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Joan Messenger Tolles, and their three children: Sarah Fairbanks Tolles, Rebecca Messenger Tolles, and James Maben Tolles, all of Oakwood; his parents, Robert Stevenson Tolles and his wife, Evelyn Curfman Tolles of Sand Point, MI; father-in-law, Harold Clay Messenger, Jr., M.D. and his wife, Myra Maben Messenger of Oakwood; brother, Thomas Randolph Tolles (Barbara) of Bentley, MI; sister, Sally Tolles Springstead (Robert, D.D.S.) of Brighton, MI; brother-in-law, Harold Clay “Terry” Messenger, III (Laura) of Alexandria, VA; sister-in-law, Margaret Maben Messenger of Alexandria, VA; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 33 W. Dixon Ave., Oakwood, OH on Saturday, November 8, 2003 at 11:00 AM. by the Rev. Melody Williams. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakwood Boy Scout Troop 101, 33 W. Dixon Ave., Dayton, OH 45419 or the American Heart Association, PO Box 182039, Dept. 013, Columbus, OH 43218-2039, or the charity of your choice.
