Sean Marc Martens

July 25, 1977 — July 31, 2022

MARTENS, Sean Marc, age 45, of Kettering, passed away on Monday, July 31st at his home. He was a graduate of Brandon High School, Brandon, Florida in 1995 and received his Associates degree in Industrial Design Technology with a specialization in transportation and product design from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA in 2000, graduating with Honors. Combining his love for art and automobiles, Sean’s production designs for custom aftermarket add-ons like spoilers, fender flares, mirrors and grills were featured on the cover of National Automotive magazines. Sean was a member of several local car clubs, particularly those featuring VW and Audi where he entered his restored 1970 Datsun 510 in car shows. He always kept a “hobby car” that he was refurbishing or working on. During his career Sean was employed by several custom auto shops as the lead specialty electronics installer and customizer. Sean’s greatest regret was that after his surgery for brain tumors and radiation treatments for brain cancer, he was physically unable to fully pursue his love of art and autos. None the less, he held steadfast strength and perseverance in the face of enormous adversity and maintained his unique and randomly hilarious sense of humor. He was non-judgmental and compassionate to others; like when shortly after brain surgery he was the only person to render aid to an elderly man with a medical emergency who drove in to the side of a drug store, or when he helped a friend feel normal in public settings again after a serious medical diagnosis. But the true loves of his life were his two children. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Rene and Virginia Martens, and Frances and Arly Burch. He is survived by his parents Marc S. and Judy K. Martens, daughter, Kayla R. Martens; son, Max S. Martens; brother Eric S. (Jen) Martens and nephews William M. and Peyton A. Martens; uncles Brian K. (Rose) Martens and Steven L. (Pat) Burch; numerous cousins and his faithful dog Bailey. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6245 Wilmington Pike, Centerville, OH 45459. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, 1625 Calvary Drive, Dayton, OH 45409. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the UC Health Foundation, 3200 Burnet Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45219 by designating your gift “in memory of Sean Marc Martens supporting the Brain Tumor Center, Glioma Research Team, for Metabolic inhibition of brain tumor growth.” Make your designation on the memo form of your check.
