Shirley Hannah Sturtz

STURTZ, Shirley Ebbeson (Osterday), age 87, of Kettering, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 28, 2013. She was born on September 10, 1925 in Minneapolis, MN to the late Peter and Florence (Smith) Ebbeson. Shirley served our country in the United States Marine Corps and worked for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base until her retirement in 1970. She was very much involved in the Belmont Chapter #555 Order of the Eastern Star, belonged to the Dayton Women's Club, Burrough's Nature Study Group, Sunshiner's Group and was involved in Rainbow. Shirley was also involved with the Marine Corps League Det. #271, which she truly loved confirming the value of the Marine Corps. Being an avid pet lover, her home was never without a 4-legged family member. Her love of her Siamese kitty Clarence followed her to the end. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sturtz; son, Richard Douglas Osterday; step-son, Theodore Kirk Sturtz; sister, Lorraine Marie Ebbeson Bredehorst; and brothers, Donald Peter Ebbeson and Earl Ebbeson. She is survived by her children, Susan Marie Osterday (William) Schmidt, John Martin (Sara) Osterday and William Peter Osterday; daughter-in-law, Gloria Osterday; step-son, James Edward (Melva) Sturtz; and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her Danish cousins. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Rd., Kettering with an Eastern Star Service as well. Family will greet friends briefly following the service.
