Steven Woodrow Meier

MEIER, Steven Woodrow, age 71, of Kettering, passed away Friday, January 27, 2023. Steve was born January 30, 1951 to the late Woodrow and Norma Jean (Boldman) Meier. He graduated from Waynedale High School in Apple Creek in 1969 and then from Morehead State University with a Bachelors of Education in 1973. Steve earned his Masters in Computer Science from the University of Dayton in 1986.

Steve wrestled in high school and then in college at Morehead State. Steve dedicated over 36 years of his life teaching high school. He taught at Waynedale High School, Carroll High School and retired from Xenia High School. He also coached football and wrestling. Steve officiated high school wrestling for over 45 years. Most years he had post season assignments refereeing Sectional and District tournaments and State tournaments for 2 years. Steve worked scoring tables with fellow referees at the State tournament for over 30 years. He also loved to golf, spend time outdoors camping and hiking and most importantly spending time with his grandson Conner.

Steve was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Cindy; his parents, Woodrow (Woodie) and Norma Jean Meier (Boldman); stepmother, Katy Meier; sister, Kelly Meier; and his nephew, Michael Neal. He is survived by children, Stephanie (Joe) Hyrne and Steve (Kim) Meier; grandpuppy, Rosie Meier (favorite grandkid); grandson, Conner Hyrne (favorite grand human); brother, Jeff (Jolene) Meier, sisters, Cindy (Tom) Henry, Tammy Meier; Step Sister, Beth (Don) Johnson; Step sister in law, Shirley Bookmyer, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will greet friends from 5:00pm-7:00pm Wednesday, February 1 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, February 2 at the funeral home. Burial in Valley View Memorial Gardens.
