He graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School and Grinnell College and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Beginning in 1959 on Wall Street, he had a long career as a stock broker. In 1960, he came to Piqua to open a brokerage office for Greene & Ladd. He moved to Dayton with Greene & Ladd and became a partner in Cowen & Co., until it was purchased by Societe Generale in 1998. He continued to serve his clients through Lehman Brothers, Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley until his retirement in January, 2013. Throughout his career, he was recognized as a top investment advisor in Dayton. Mr. McCormick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy D. McCormick of Dayton, his sister, Patricia McCormick of Jeffersonville, Vermont; his children: Wendy McCormick (Kevin Fleming) of Evansville, Indiana; Kelly McCormick (Robert Cohen) of Centennial, Colorado; Meg Stenson McCormick (Jeff Brown) of Denver, Colorado; and Kathryn McCormick of San Luis Obispo, California; and by his nine grandchildren: Lydia, Joanna and Abigail Fleming; Gretchen, Morgan and Mackenzie Cohen; Lila, Anna and Jack Stenson. For 15 years he and his wife played golf at Dayton Country Club, and for the past 27 years at Moraine Country Club. They also took golf trips to Great Britain, New Zealand, and Australia. He treasured friendships made through golf. Mr. McCormick was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and served the church as a trustee and in other financial capacities. A dedicated community volunteer and philanthropist, he supported numerous organizations to better the community. He was a member of Rotary International, served as President of the clubs in Piqua and Dayton, and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Dayton Art Institute Associate Board and, together with his wife, chaired the Oktoberfest. For many years he served on the Salvation Army board, as well as the board of Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm. Most recently, he served on the board of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and, at the time of his death, was a member of the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance Advisory Board. He was a member of Moraine Country Club, the Junto Club, the 49rs Club and the Dayton Bicycle Club. Though he was not an Ohio State alumnus, he was a loyal Buckeye fan. He and his wife enjoyed a second home in Crested Butte, Colorado for 25 years, where he was an active hiker and skier and an associate member of Union Congregational Church. He regularly participated in the July 4 Gothic-Crested Butte 1/3 marathon, including in 2012. Seven times he hiked from Crested Butte to Aspen, most recently in 2009. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, especially to Dornoch, Scotland and to visit cousins in his ancestral home of Pudasjarvi, Finland.
