HOWARD, Edward Junior, age 87, of Kettering, formerly Westerville, Ohio, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018. Edward was born on February 27, 1931 to George and Grace (Brown) Howard in Ashtabula, OH.
Ed is survived by his wife of 62 years Dorothy (Denney) Howard, daughter Diana (Clifford) Thorstenson, son James, grandchildren Grace and Clifford Thorstenson, and sister Betty Kraft.
He graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in 1949 and worked for Toledo Scale from 1963-1993. Edward was a Korean War Vet, and sang in the Kettering Senior Show Choir.
Edward was an active member of numerous Masonic organizations including Mystic Lodge #405 F&AM (serving as Master of that Lodge in 1971), Unity Chapter #16 RAM, Reese Council #9 R&SM, Dayton Commandery #68, Antioch Temple AAONMS of Dayton, Aladdin Temple AAONMS of Columbus, Valley of Dayton, AASR, Tall Cedars of Dayton including: Three Rivers Forest 174 TCL, Toledo Forest, Franklin Forest #172 TCL, District #25, Ohio State Association, Supreme Forest, and Key Club 10, Antioch Shrine Past Master’s Club, Aladdin Motorcycle Corp, Ohio Lodge of Research, Philalethes Society, National Association of Masonic Scouters, Masonic Society, Miami Valley Preceptory, DeMolay Legion of Honor, International DeMolay Alumni Association.
Edward was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America, specifically, Scout Troop 110 in the Miami Valley Council, and as an adult leader with Boy Scout Troop 700 and in multiple capacities from 1979 until 2006. While serving the Boy Scouts he receive multiple recognitions including the Central Ohio Council Order of the Arrow Founder’s Award, Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor from Tecumseh Lodge, and Silver Beaver. He was also a member of American Legion Post #89 and #171.
Memorial services will be held Thursday March 8th at 5:00 pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Rd, Dayton, OH 45429. Family will receive friends following the memorial service in the narthex.
