PESTIAN, Frederick, age 90, passed away on September 21, 2017. Frederick was born on September 20, 1927 to Frederick and Wilmina (Krapfel) Pestian in Steubenville, OH.
He served proudly as a Sargent in the United States Marine Corp. Frederick retired from the University of Dayton as the Supervisor of the machine shop at the Research Institute. Frederick was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making wooden cars for “Toys for Gods Kids”, which are given free to children in disadvantaged circumstances both here and in foreign countries by military, missionaries, and other travelers. He was known as “Mr. Fix-It” to his family.
Frederick was preceded in death by his son, David J. Pestian; grandson, Jeffrey Jones, and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Colette (Armsby) Pestian; children, Margaret Y. Jones, Elizabeth M. Pestian, Frederick J. (Tracey) Pestian Jr., Catherine A. Pestian and Amy L. (Jeffrey) Card; daughter-in-law, Nancy E. Pestian; grandchildren, Renee, Marcus, Meagan, and Jason Jones, Karly and Katy Howerton, Daniel and Michael Sherrill, Alexander and Matthew Card, Alyssa and Nellie Pestian; great-grandchildren, Austen, Morgan, and Bexley Sherrill; brother, Edward Pestian.
A Memorial Mass will take place at 11am on Saturday, September 30 at St. Leonard Church, 8100 Clyo Rd, Centerville. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Contributions in Frederick’s memory can be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton 45420.
