HOLLINS, Gerald B., (Jerry) age 85, of Kettering, OH, passed away on March 3, 2018. He was born to the late Paul C. and Mary I. (nee Nall) Hollins on March 22, 1932 in Louisville, KY.
He was valedictorian of his high school class before continuing his education at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He worked as an electrical engineer at the NCR Corporation in Dayton, Ohio before pursing his law degree at the Salmon P. Chase Law School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jerry specialized in patent law, merging his work experience as an electrical engineer with his law degree to write patents for the Hobart Corporation, and the United States Air Force (at Wright Patterson Air Force Base).
Everyone who knew Jerry knew that he was the ultimate “tinkerer,” finding a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction in fixing up classic cars, re-designing electrical devices and combating the forces of nature as they attempted to assail his beloved home. He was a long-standing member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Oakwood, Ohio, and was, of course, a Kentucky Colonel.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois B. Hollins. Gerald was survived by daughters Sharon (Dan Frye) Hollins of Toledo, OH and Barbara (Tom) Lake of Columbus, OH. and 4 grandchildren: Alec, Jill, Kevin and Renee.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Concordia Lutheran Church, 2502 E. Peach Orchard Ave., Dayton OH. Visitation will be held from 10am-11am prior to the service at the church. Pastor Tony Sobocinski will be officiating. Interment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Cemetery in Louisville, KY. Contributions may be made in Jerry’s memory to Concordia Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 250 E. Peach Orchard Ave., Dayton, OH 45419.
