KURPIEL, Paul V., age 65, of West Carrollton, Ohio passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Kettering Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was a graduate of Chaminade High School Dayton Ohio. He was retired from Greater Dayton RTA. Paul was a member of the West Carrollton Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by parents, Adam and Frances Kurpiel. Paul is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sherrie; brothers, Tom (Diane) of Florida, Jim and Bob of Dayton; sister, Mary (Mark) of Kettering; sisters in laws and brother in laws of Dayton, Beavercreek, Centerville, Oklahoma and Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews from both sides.
He played basketball and baseball at Chaminade High school and he earned Ohio Baseball Player of the Year honor in 1970. The basketball team and the baseball team of 1970 is the only Dayton school to win the large school division in both sports the same year. In 1982, Paul was inducted into the Chaminade Julienne Hall of Fame. He also accepted a 4 year athletic scholarship (for baseball) to The Ohio State University and spent time in the Chicago White Socks minor league organization. Paul enjoyed golfing and his special trips to Hilton Head Island to golf and for the RBC Heritage Golf Classic that our brother in law, Dan Becker, set up for him and friends each year.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00pm on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E Stroop Road Kettering. Visitation will take place one hour before the service from 4:00-5:00pm at the funeral home.
