Carl Louis Tews

September 1, 1944 — May 6, 2022

TEWS, Carl Louis, age 77, formerly of Columbus, OH, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Kettering Health Hospital. Carl was born in Rockford, Illinois, in 1944 to Carl Gustav and Lillian Sylvia (Dunger) Tews. He was a graduate of Oswego High School in 1962, received a BS in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) in 1966, and an MBA from Lynchburg College in 1994.

Carl was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and Mensa International. He was also a proud member of the Westerville Senior Center Men’s Pool Club and even taught Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, including his granddaughter.

He loved playing card games, chess, monopoly, and solving jigsaw puzzles. He was a lifelong learner, constantly improving himself, reading books, and passing that knowledge on to others by tutoring adults. But by far, this devoted family man’s greatest joy was the love for his grandkids, enjoying their laughter, telling them stories of the family’s past, and helping them finish their homework.

Preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lillian Tews, he was an only child. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Patrica E.; daughter, Wanda Green and her husband, Joshua; son, Carl S. Tews and his wife Tyler; son, Richard Tews; 2 grandsons, Carl Robert and Jackson Tews; 2 granddaughters, Charlotte Tews and Lillian “Lilly” Green.

Funeral services will be held 2PM on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E Stroop Rd., Dayton, OH 45429. Reception to follow. Entombment in David's Cemetery.
