Carolyn "G" Gardner

May 7, 1942 — September 17, 2016

GARDNER, Carolyn (Groves), age 74, formerly of Oakwood, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at her beloved farm in Spring Valley, Ohio. Carolyn was born on May 7, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio to Robert Cecil and Louise Cappel Groves. She was a graduate of Oakwood High School in 1960 and attended Denison University and Case Western Reserve University. Carolyn was a member of Miami Valley Hunt and Polo Club, Moraine Country Club and former Chairman of the Spring Valley Zoning Commission. For a brief time she was a Ford model in New York, NY. She was a devoted mother and loving wife. Carolyn was a lifelong voracious reader and known for her deadpan humor and strong opinions, including her ability to express those opinions using both her fierce intellectual reasoning and facts. She loved nature and all animals, including snakes and spiders. After raising her children and living the majority of her life in Oakwood, she fulfilled a lifelong dream to live in the country by moving to a beautiful farm in Spring Valley, where she lived until her death. There she enjoyed the natural beauty of the farm and its surroundings, as well as a parade of many cats and dogs. However, her greatest joy was her children, including her many "adopted" sons friends of her sons, Ames and Robert who she fed frequently and mentored when needed. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ames, Jr.; three children and their spouses, daughter, Constance Gardner and her husband, Leo Flotron of Oakwood, OH; son, Ames III and his wife, Terra Gardner of Upper Arlington, OH; son, Robert and his wife, Kristie Gardner of Ann Arbor, MI; nephew, Christopher Rogge of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Daisy Flotron, Leo Flotron III, William Gardner, Ainsley Gardner, and Wyatt Gardner. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 33 W. Dixon Ave., Oakwood, OH. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Salvation Army, 1000 North Keowee St. Dayton, OH 45404, The Humane Society of Greater Dayton, 1661 Nicholas Rd., Dayton, OH 45417 or Hospice of the Miami Valley, 46 N.
