Clotilde Royal

ROYAL, Clotilde (Clo)-Age-86 of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away at Kettering Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio on Nov. 18th, 2021. Ms. Royal was born on June 13th, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana, but spent most of her life in the greater Cincinnati area. She was a 1953 graduate of Withrow High School and went on to study Art at the University of Cincinnati (UC) where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1958. She remained a lifelong UC alumni member and continued her education over the years where she obtained two master’s degrees, one in Fine Arts and one in Sculpture. She loved to travel to various art exhibits over the years and spent extended time in San Miguel Mexico in which she studied the cultural art there and obtained another fine arts degree from the University of Guanajuato in 1970. Clotilde was actively involved in the local art community thru-out her life. She became a member of The Women’s Art Club of Cincinnati at an early age and was one of their oldest members until she could no longer participate in 2016 due to her health. She was their Program Director for many years in which she organized monthly events, trips and put on numerous demonstrations to highlight the work of various artists.

Besides keeping busy with her artwork, Clotilde spent many years working in jewelry design and jewelry sales at various companies. She also spent many years working and coordinating events for the Linton Chamber Music Series Peanut Butter and Jam Concert Sessions in Cincinnati. In her spare time, Clotilde enjoyed singing in the Lutheran Liturgical Choir, going to her Yoga classes and then her Silver Sneaker Classes later in life. Clotilde was a lover of animals, especially birds and squirrels that she would make sure she fed daily around her yard.

She is preceded in death by her parents Dr. Warren & Clotilde Royal, her three sisters Jacklyn Kim, Jeanne Smith, and Virginia Morris. She is survived by her 7 nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, Byron Smith, Shelley Coon (Smith-Sundstrom), Eric Smith, Debra Morton (Morris) Hollis Bowles (Kim), Whitney Kim, Candice Pear (Kim), and many more great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and Tribute to her Life will be held on Wednesday, December 29th at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering, Ohio 45429. The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00. A short ceremony will be held at 1:00 at the funeral home with burial ceremony of remains at Woodlands Cemetery & Arboretum at the in-ground scattering garden at 2:00 pm.
