David A. Coble, Sr.

Coble, David A., age 85, formerly of Dayton, OH, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014 in Ocala, FL. David was born on January 16, 1929 in Washington Court House, OH to Chester and Grace Scott Coble. He was the 3rd of 10 children. David joined the US Army at age 16. He retired from the US Army after 21 years of serice, and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean conflict. David always excelled in whatever job or duty he was given. While in high school he excelled in track and football, and was written up many times in the local newspaper for his athleticism. While in the Army he was selected to represent his unit in the Golden Gloves Boxing competition. He loved to learn all he could about his position and the job he was working, and as a result, he made a good impression with everyone he worked with. In all of his jobs he always managed to be promoted aa a supervisor or a manager. His last paid job before retiring, was Plant Superintendent, at the Montgomery County South Incinerator. David was a member of Kiwanis of Dayton. David loved the Lord, this was demonstrated throughout his life even from an early age. As a teenager he helped to build the tabernacle at the Church of God campground in West Middlesex, PA. While in Dayton, he was chairman of the trustee board at the Home Ave. Church of God. He also sang in the male choir. In Florida, he was the chairman of the Church council at the College Park Church of God. He taught Sunday school and was an usher. He was elected President of KCP home owners association in Ocala, FL., a position he held for 5 years. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan, he met and married his loving wife, Chiyo Oshiro and eight children were born of that union. David was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gary, Richard and Paul; sister, Joyce Sanford; a son in law, James Cannon, an infant son, Phillip and his wife of 44 years, Chiyo Coble. He is survived by his wife Linda C., daughters, Yasuko Rosemary (Russell) Lewis of Clayton, OH, Eiko Grace (Nathan) Perry of West Chester, OH, Anita Cannon and Mary Michelle (Gary) Turner of Fairfield, OH; sons, Kevin (Monica) of Suwannee, GA, Donald (Jane) of Sunbury, OH and David, Jr. (Carmela) of Clayton, OH and adopted grandson, Clinton (Jamie) of Trotwood, OH; step-daughters Dana LaBounty of Ocala, FL and Yolanda Menefee of Las Vegas, NV; four sisters, Evelyn Hagwood of Washington, DC, Barbara McCoy , Rosalyn (Nathaniel) Reed of Tracy, CA and Patricia (Moarion) Rice; one brother, Phillip (Diane) Coble and a sister-in-law, Beverly Coble; a host of beloved grandchildren (17), great-grandchildren (21) and nieces and nephews. Funeral services, Friday, June 27, 2014 at Salem Church of God, 6500 Southway Rd. Clayton, OH. Visitation is from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the church. Service at 1:00pm, Bishop Nathan A. Perry officiating. Interment 3:00pm at Dayton National Cemetery. In David's memory, in lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made to the Ohio Men's Fellowship, 6235 Dodge Rd., SW, Canton, OH 44706, with an annotation that the money be designated for the David A. Coble scholarship fund. A memorial service will be held in Ocala, FL, Sunday, July, 6 2014 at 11:30am, at the College Park Church of God, 3140 SW 26th St. Ocala, 34476, telephone number 352-237-2247.
