Donald Arthur Buck

DR. BUCK, Donald Arthur, age 94, of Kettering, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020 at St. Leonard. Don was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1926 to Arthur Henry and Edna Elizabeth (Huppertz) Buck.

Don attended College Hill Elementary school, and later Hughes High School which was a seven mile street car ride from his home. He sang in the Glee Club and choir, and was go-captain of the high school swimming team. After high school graduation, he joined the Navy. He studied naval engineering at Duke University and was a member of the Duke swim team. He also trained at Treasure Island Naval Base in San Francisco. After World War II ended, Don studied medicine at the University of Cincinnati completing his residency in 1956. Don practiced internal medicine at his office on Watervliet Avenue in Dayton and was on the medical staff at Miami Valley Hospital.

Post retirement he taught medicine at Wright State University. Don’s hobbies were many; church choir and Montgomery County Doctor’s Glee Club, gardening, bridge, sailing, skiing, tennis, and traveling to visit children and grandchildren. Even studying German with his wife, Joanne at University of Dayton and living in Luxembourg for several months.

He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Edna Buck, as well as by Shirlee Passau-Buck, the mother of his 5 children; by Joanne Stanford Buck, his wife of 32 years; and by his daughter, Jennifer Hansen; and his step-sons John and Kirk Hart.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Buck; his sister, Ruth Stoffer; daughter Judith Sprieser (John) of Virginia and their children Lauren and Kevin; son Randall Buck (Angela) of Maryland and their daughter Sierra; Darryl Buck (Kathy) of California and his daughters Diana and Emily; Tamara Kenney (Mark) of Centerville, Ohio and their children Izzie and Josh; Step daughters Jane Hart and Carol White; 4 nephews, Bob, Jim, Jeff and Phil; grandchildren of Joanne and Betty.
