Donald "Don" Dapore

d. November 14, 2017

DAPORE, Donald W., age 82, formerly of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017. He was a graduate of Fairborn High School in 1953 and served his country in the U.S. Army from December 1954 to May 1955. Upon returning to civilian life, Don worked at the Universal Atlas Cement (division of the United States Steel Corporation) while taking business classes at Miami-Jacobs Career College in his evenings. He resigned his position in June 1963 to become a successful entrepreneur in opening two Party Port drive thru carry-out businesses in Huber Heights and considered a new concept in retailing. Don operated both stores for 25+ years before selling the businesses to continue managing his rental properties. He had a small cabin on Sugar Island, Sault Ste. Marie Michigan where he vacationed for over 30 years. Don was an avid sports fan and a University of Dayton Flyer basketball fanatic for over 60 years. He had season tickets to home games and would take bus trips to a variety of cities and even attended tournaments in Puerto Rico to root for his team. Don was a Cincinnati Bengal fan/season ticket holder and was in attendance at both Bengal Super Bowls. Additionally, he was a lifetime Notre Dame Fighting Irish football fan. His travels included Central America where he went tarpon fishing on rivers in Costa Rica. Don lived an active life where he took up snow skiing in his 50s leading him to travel the world to ski (e.g., Breckenridge, Steamboat, Vail, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Alps, Spain, Germany). Preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Shorty L. Dapore and Rosalinda Linda E. Dapore (Artkamp) and sister and brother, Sueanne D. Godsey (Dapore) and Dr. Frank P. Dapore. He is survived by his sisters and brother, Mary E. McCrate (Dapore), Judith Judy L. Gayheart (Dapore) and Thomas Tom L. Dapore, daughter, Julia Julie A. Dapore and son, Jeffrey W. Dapore. He dearly loved his daughter-in-law, Dara L. Lee Dapore and granddaughters, Zoe E. Dapore and Ella M. Dapore.
