GIRGIS, Dr. Sami Bishara, MD, age 85, of Harrison Township, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2019. Dr. Girgis was born on September 1, 1933 in Cairo, Egypt. He was the youngest of 5 sons. His father, Bishara died when Sami was 10 years old. His mother, Tofa lived to see 2 of her sons grow up to become engineers and 3 of her sons become medical doctors.

Sami and Faiza welcomed their daughter, Mariam after they emigrated. Dr. Sami Girgis completed his medical training with a Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship from The Ohio State University. He practiced in Springfield at Community Hospital and Mercy Medical Center from 1975 until his retirement in 1999. Much of that time he was also the TB Commissioner of Clark County.

Dr. Girgis was respected by the medical community and loved by his patients and office staff. Special thanks to his office manager of 20 years, Mary Slaughter; her husband, Rev. Jim Slaughter and their family. Also Beejee, nurses Edith and Candy, Bernie and many others.

Dr. Girgis was proud to be a medical doctor and dedicated himself to serving thousands of patients over his nearly 25 year career. He enjoyed living at his Florida condo, attending OSU football games, painting, playing backgammon, reading, learning how to use his iPhone, tablet and laptop. He had a great sense of humor and loved his family.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Faiza Hanna Girgis, MD; daughter, Mariam; son, Nader; daughter-in-law, Kathleen; granddaughter, Arielle; nieces, nephews and extended family.
