Elizabeth "Libby" Ann Hornbeck

HORNBECK, Elizabeth "Libby" Ann, age 99, a lifelong resident of Oakwood, passed away one day shy of her 100th birthday, on Friday, October 7, 2016. Libby was born to the late Harry Lee and Lee (Waymire) Flack on October 8, 1916 in Dayton, Ohio. She graduated as V. President from Oakwood High School in 1934 and Ohio State University with a BS in Business. Libby helped her father and husband, Joe, in the family business, Flack Equipment Co. from 1939-1953 and worked with the downtown Dayton Christian Center. For many years she worked with the YWCA and tutored in the Dayton Public Schools. She was extremely active within her community, including Friday Afternoon Club, Garden Club of Dayton and her church, First Baptist Church of Dayton where she was a lifelong member. Libby was instrumental in bringing a new pipe organ to First Baptist Church through fund raising, and served as moderator and attended Naomi Circle and she helped put on the monthly AIDS dinner at church. She also served in the International Level of the American Baptist Churches. Libby was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joe H. Hornbeck; sister, Dorothy Burkam and niece, Lucie. Libby is survived by her children, James (Mary) Hornbeck, and Molly (Jerry) Beam; grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Moyer and Sarah (Chris) Fisher; great-grandchild, Lucy Beam Fisher; niece, Barbara Hunter and great-nieces, Hillary and Emily. A private graveside service was held at Polk Grove Cemetery in Butler Twp., OH. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, November 12, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Dayton, 111 W. Monument Ave. Dayton, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Dayton, 111 W. Monument Ave. Dayton, OH 45402 or Hospice.
