Elwood "Woody" C. Snell

SNELL, Elwood “Woody,” age 103, of Dayton, went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Beverly, Monday, February 28, 2022. Woody was born on July 27, 1918, in Phoneton, Ohio; the son of the late Harry and Emma (Stallman) Snell. He graduated from Bethel Township High School in 1936. Woody joined the Army Air Corps on November 4, 1940, and proudly served his country during WWII. Woody served for a total of four years reaching the rank of Master Sergeant Crew Chief until his honorable discharge on September 11, 1945. After serving, he worked at Ohio Bell for many years as an engineer until his retirement in 1979. In 1950, Woody married the love of his life, Beverly and together they raised their two children. Woody was known for his service to the community as he volunteered at Kettering Hospital and was a member of the Tippecanoe Lodge #174 as a Mason and the Scottish Rite for 75 years. When he was not volunteering, Woody could be seen at the Faith Lutheran Church in Dayton. Woody will be remembered as a devoted family man and a loving husband and father by his family. Along with his parents, Woody is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Beverly; brothers, Wilbur and Robert Snell; and sister, Della Snell. He is survived by his brother Louis (Pat) Snell, children, Debbie Frazier, and Doug (Kerry) Snell; grandchildren, Scott (Katie) Frazier, Matt (Kiley) Frazier, Brodey Snell, and Bonnie Snell; and great grandchild, Addie Frazier. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering, OH 45429 as well as a Masonic Service beginning at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 10:00 AM also at the funeral home. Woody will be laid to rest next to his wife at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens where Air Force honors will be rendered. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kettering Hospital or Faith Lutheran Church, 3315 Martel Drive, Dayton, OH 45420
