Jack Kline Marshall

MARSHALL, Jack Kline, age 94, of Kettering passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at his residence at The Suites of Walnut Creek after a brief illness. He was born on February 8, 1919 in Springfield, OH to the late William Robert and Treva Kline Marshall. Jack graduated from Stivers High School in 1937 and in 1941 earned his Bachelors Degree from Denison University where he was a member and senior president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. In 1941, he married Dorothy Marie Bates who preceded him in death in 1997. Jack entered into military commission in the US Army Air Corps in 1942 and was assigned to the 8th Air Force quartermaster officer. He served in England May 1943 to December 1945, ending with the rank of Captain. Jack worked as Personnel Director of Miami Valley Hospital from 1946-1947, Administrator of Stillwater Sanatorium from 1947-1967, and Grandview Hospital Assistant Administrator from 1967-1977. In 1997 he married Margaret Parin Hochwalt who preceded him in death in 2010. Jack was a member of South Park United Methodist Church, a member of the Scottish Rite Freemasons Antioch Shrine, and a member and past president of Dayton Sertoma Club since 1947. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing poker and was a world traveler. Jack is preceded in death by his 1st wife of 55 years, Dorothy Bates; 2nd wife of 13 years, Peggy Hochwalt; and daughter, Mary Ann Montgomery. He is survived by his sons, Jack (Susan) Marshall of Minneapolis, MN and David (Martha) Marshall of Haymarket, VA; son-in-law, John Montgomery of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Jennifer Adolphs, Julia Marshall, Elizabeth and Stephen Marshall, and Robert and Christopher Montgomery; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Kristyn Adolphs, and Henry and Anna Montgomery; five step children, thirteen step grandchildren; and eight step great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Walnut Creek Nursing Home, the Hospice of Dayton and Destiny Hospice for all their dedication and hard work. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Park Methodist Church, 140 Stonemill Rd., Dayton, OH 45409 or the Antioch Shrine Foundation, 107 East First St., Dayton, OH 45402.
