James David Bellware

July 12, 1924 — March 20, 2016

BELLWARE, James David, age 91, of Dayton, Ohio passed away peacefully at Hospice on March 20, 2016. He was a veteran of the European Theater in WWII where he served in the Army, Cannon Co. 119th Infantry 30th Division. He received the Purple Heart, the European-African-Middle Eastern ribbon with 5 Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct ribbon. His battles included: Normandy (D-Day Omaha Beach), Northern France, Ardennes (The Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland, and Central Europe. He attended Trotwood High School and after returning from WWII, graduated from Patterson Co-Op. He completed Sinclair's "Engineering and Design" section. He retired from Delco Products in 1982 where he was a talented Designer, Engineer, and Inventor, holding 5 patents for his work. During his lifetime, he worked for many companies to include NCR, Aero Products in Dayton, the NASA Space Program in California as an Aerospace Engineer where he designed the fueling system on the Atlas Missile Project in his words "The one that flew and NOT the one that crashed." He worked on projects for the C-5A, F-16 engines, the Saturn Missile Project, B-2 Stealth Bomber, and many more. He worked for Corning Glass Works, General Electric, and numerous other companies, as well as designing and building several homes. He was a 67 year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton. His home and family were the center of Dave's life. He loved to work in his yard and farm and garden, at one time even running a small tree nursery. There was nothing he couldn't grow. He was a pilot, enjoyed golf, and passed both passions on to his kids. He loved his Cincinnati Reds and Bengals and even coached Little League Baseball. If he couldn't build it, fix it, or make it including carpentry and furniture, it couldn't be done. Truly, he was a genius and his meticulous attention to detail, methodology, and orientation was a wonder to behold. With careful thought and planning, he always "Did it right the first time." Dave was preceded in death by his father, John S. Bellware, and mother, Bessie (Frasier) Bellware and also all 10 of his siblings: William "Clay", Conard, Vernon, John "Jack", Allen, George "Pete", Mary Chudleigh, Anna Beatrice Libby, Morris "Daniel", and Ruth Joan Potter. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Carolyn E. (Downing) Bellware; 4 children, Diane E. Weyrauch (Richard), James L. Bellware (Angela), David J. Bellware (Nona), and John V.
