Judith Ann King

KING, Judith Ann, age 70, of Oakwood, OH, quietly left us as she slept on Monday, October 10, 2016. Had she been awake she would have put up her best judicial argument to stay longer. Sadly, that was not the case. Judith was born to the late John R. and Marie (nee Meyerhoffer) Bene on February 12, 1946 in Cleveland, OH. Judith was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Bass; brother, John Bene and nephew, Matthew Bass. Judith is survived by her sisters, Jeanne Nordlof and Barbara Dolinski; her husband, John; children, Caitlin and David and grandchildren, Nia, Yahla and Aireh. Judy, as she was known to family and friends, attended Hoban Dominican High School in Cleveland and received her BA in Sociology/Psychology from the University of Dayton in 1969. She then worked for the Montgomery County (MC) welfare department and the senior citizen's center. Judy entered the first class after UD's Law school reopened in 1975. Upon receiving her JD degree she joined the MC prosecutor's office and in 1980 was appointed to the court of Domestic Relations where she soon rose to Chief Magistrate. Judy was elected Judge in 2000 and retired from that position in 2011. In addition, Judy taught Family Law at UD, the Ohio Judicial College in Columbus and at Sinclair Community College. She received numerous awards and citations from local and State Bar associations and Courts. She was a frequent guest expert on local radio and TV. Judy had a lifelong love of reading. She wrote special stories for her adoring grandchildren and composed humorous poems to share with family. Her favorite activities centered on her home. She enjoyed the creativity of decorating and restoring old home interiors and antique furniture. She excelled at baking to the delight of family, friends and charitable organizations. Her colleagues and court fundraisers all benefited from her talents as a pastry chef, her pies always collecting the most proceeds. Judy was patient, thoughtful, kind and generous with everyone she knew and everyone she met. Her home and heart were open to all. Family will greet friends from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Holy Angels church, 1322 Brown St., Dayton, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic charities.
